South Cambridgeshire District Council
South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) provides local government services to the large rural district of South Cambridgeshire, which covers approximately 90,000 hectares, has 102 villages and forms the southernmost part of the county of Cambridgeshire.
In 2004 SCDC moved their offices to a new business park located in Cambourne.
A small self operated canteen was provided to cater for the staff, Council members and meeting rooms. 350 people were available to use the service and the facilities were open between 8.00 and 14.00 Monday to Friday.
A limited amount of hot breakfast and lunch items were produced daily along with soup, sandwiches and salads. Working lunches and beverages were delivered to the meeting rooms as required.
On being awarded the contract, Wendy Sutherland conducted the assignment in two stages; a review and options appraisal followed by support with the tender process for outsourcing the catering services.
The objectives of the review and options appraisal were to:
- understand and review key functions/activities
- review the staffing profile
- observe the services
- analyse the financial data
- present key findings
